š¬ What Can I Origins Teach Us About Leadership?
āNo two human irises are the same. Not two humans are the same.
Like fingerprints, our eyes are uniquely oursāeach a map, a story, a signature.ā
šØ SPOILER ALERT!
I Origins is not just a film about science and spiritualityāitās a story about uniqueness, openness, and the humility to accept that not everything can be measured⦠yet.
It reminds us of something deeply aligned with the LeaderNess philosophy:
The answers we seekāabout who we are, where weāre goingāare often hidden beneath the surface. And sometimes, what looks irrational⦠is simply not yet understood.
šļø Scene One: The Uniqueness of the Iris
At the core of the film lies a powerful truth: no two human irises are the same.
Like fingerprints, our eyes are uniquely oursāeach a map, a story, a signature.
This reflects a fundamental belief at LeaderNess:
You are not somebody else. You are yourself. You are a unique force.
And leadership isnāt about being more like othersāitās about finding the unique blueprint that makes you you, and leading from it.
š§Ŗ Scene Two: āThe worm can only see one layer. What about the rest?ā
In a moment of scientific reflection, the characters observe how a worm can only perceive light and darkāno shapes, no colors, no nuance.
ā[Worms] they live without any ability to see or even know about light, right? The notion of light to them is unimaginable. We humans, we know that light exists all around them, right on top of them. They cannot sense it but with a little mutation they do. Perhaps some humans - rare humans - have mutated to have another sense. A spirite sense. And can perceive a world that is right on top of us.ā
And they ask:
āWhat if weāre the same? What if thereās more we canāt yet perceive?ā
This scene echoes a key leadership insight:
We lead based on what we know. But the most effective leaders are open to what they donāt. They stay curious. They know their perception is partial.
Just like the worm, we might be missing entire dimensions of reality.
Your perception vs reality
šļø Scene Three: Science, Faith, and the Unknown
Later, in a moving conversation with an Indian character, the film explores the tension between science and faith. He speaks about Einstein, and other great minds who held space for mystery.
PRIYA: āDr. Grey, are you religious?ā
IAN: āI thought you researched me. Iām not religious.ā
PRIYA: āWhy not?ā
IAN; āReligion is based on scripture written by men thousands of years ago. Those beliefs canāt be changed or challenged. Theyāre fixed. In science, great thinkers have written things very long ago⦠but every generation improves upon them. The words are not holy. Einstein is a brilliant man, but he is not our god. Heās one step in the evolution of knowledgeā¦.but we always continue to step forward. ā
PRIYA: āYou know, a scientist once asked the Dalai Lama: āWhat would you do if something scientific disproved your religious beliefs?ā And he said after much thought: āI would look at all the research and really try to understand things. And in the end, if it was clear that the scientific evidence disproved my spiritual beliefs, I would change my beliefs.'ā
IAN: āThatās a good answer. ā
PRIYA: āIan. What would you do if something spiritual disproved your scientific beliefs?ā
Religion. Just a point of view
Leadership rooted only in logic and control is thin.
True leadershipālike discoveryāis about being open to wonder. To the unexpected. To what the data doesnāt yet explain.
Because sometimes, the most important things canāt be measured.
Only felt.
š” The LeaderNess Model in Action
I Origins is a leadership journey disguised as a sci-fi love story:
š¹ Find ā Each character must confront their assumptions and find what makes them unique
š¹ Feed ā They begin to open to emotion, intuition, and unexplainable truths
š¹ Fuel ā They change how they lead, live, and loveānot from fear, but from expanded awareness
This is the shift from proof to presence. From certainty⦠to curiosity.
⨠Final Reflection
I Origins teaches us that who you are is not a formula.
You are not only your resume.
You are your story, your experiences, your perceptionāand your potential.
š” Leadership starts with the courage to see moreāwithin yourself and the world.
Because the moment you accept that you donāt need to understand everythingā¦
You finally begin to understand who you are.
